MLB Players Association Responds to S.B. 1070

As the Chicago Cubs host the Arizona Diamondbacks through the rest of the weekend, the Center for New Community, a national civil rights organization, attempted to buy three 5th Inning messages on the Cubs Scoreboard for Sunday’s game. They would have said the following:

1). Cubs Welcome Arizona Immigrant Players. Repeal SB-1070!

2). Cubs Welcome All Immigrants. Repeal AZ SB-1070!

3). Cubs Welcome D-Backs Please Repeal Arizona SB-1070!

The response from the Cubs was as follows:

David Duke Calls for a Boycott of this Summer’s World Cup

By Tom Dunmore

For the hundreds of millions of people around the world who will watch the FIFA World Cup this summer in South Africa on television, and for the vast majority of the hundreds of thousands traveling to see the tournament take place on African soil for the first-time, the soccer competition offers a global communal experience perhaps matched only by the Olympic Games.

For some extremists, it’s also a chance to attempt to sow discord and division by distorting the facts. Witness David Duke’s hysterical attempt to stoke up hatred as he issues “a call for Europeans and people of European descent around the world to boycott the World Cup being… Read more

Dan Stein’s Pants are on Fire

Dan Stein, President of FAIR, went on The Rachel Maddow Show last night and lied.

Dan Stein told Maddow, “We’ve certainly never had anything to do with Virginia Abernethy. I don’t know where you got the idea that we worked closely with her. We never have.”

Here is the truth: Virginia Abernethy, a self-described white separatist, was a national advisory board member for Protect Arizona Now (PAN) in 2004, the same year that FAIR financially supported the organization with hundreds of thousands of dollars to pass an anti-immigrant referendum (even back then FAIR was screwing with AZ’s immigration laws). When the connection was exposed by the… Read more

Arizona Law is Threat to Justice Everywhere

“Any law that uplifts the human personality is just. Any law that degrades human personality is unjust.”

~Dr. Martin Luther King wrote in a letter from a Birmingham jail.

In his Huffington Post article, Clarence B. Jones did not just stray from the path of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but began walking with the very people whose ideologies he and Dr. King opposed during the 1960s.

Mr. Jones’ article begins with, “A good doctor knows to treat the disease, not the symptoms.” And ends with, “…Arizona legislation is treating the symptoms of an international disease that needs much stronger medicine.”

It must be added that a good doctor would not prescribe… Read more

Chicago United Against Arizona’s Anti-immigrant Law

Chicago stands strong with activists across the nation to Repeal Arizona’s Senate Bill 1070. Monday night local Chicago activists organized an all night vigil and civil disobedience in response to the nation’s harshest anti-immigrant legislation.

About 300 community activists and faith based leaders gathered at the Broadview Detention center at 7pm on April 26. The purpose of the vigil was to stand in solidarity with the detainees that get taken from the deportation center daily and deported to their country of origin. It was also to protest the recent passage of Senate Bill 1070 in Arizona (see students chaining themselves to the Arizona state Capitol in demonstration against the… Read more

New Board Game Bashes Immigrants

Peter Gadiel, the president of anti-immigrant group, 9/11 Families for a Secure America, has designed a new anti-immigrant board game that he is selling on his website. His latest invention is simply called “Illegal Immigration” and, according to Gadiel, is designed to “inform the general population about people who come into the country illegally.” On the games website, Gadiel selfishly claims the game is, “The best weapon yet devised for the crusade against illegal immigration and amnesty.” When you take a closer look at the game and the person who invented it, you can clearly see that the game is nothing more than another immigrant bashing tool in the John Tanton Network’s arsenal.

Gadiel’s anti-immigrant… Read more

Sustainable Hate

The John Tanton Network is having a field day in honor of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Week. Last week, Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), NumbersUSA, Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS), Negative Population Growth (NPG), and Progressives for Immigration Reform, (PFIR), shared the same message. Linked together by hate, each of these organizations used Earth Week to blame environmental degradation on immigrants. Groups under the Tanton umbrella are once again attempting to infiltrate environmental constituencies.

These anti-immigrant groups have a unified vision for a sustainable future.   They promote US population stabilization, lower levels of immigration and, throughout Earth Week, they honed… Read more

Tea Partiers Don’t Understand the Real Threats to America

Tea Partiers are right. Threats to America are real, but they don’t have much to do with political parties or presidential administrations.

This is exceedingly clear when a severe anti-immigrant law is passed in Arizona that puts individual rights at risk, yet the most newsworthy tea party activity was eviscerating a Republican senator at a tea party rally in South Carolina.

Last week many around the country watched in horror as SB 1070, a bill that gives sweeping power to local law enforcement to racially profile Arizona communities, passed state legislature and was signed into law by Governor Jan Brewer. The bill that Gov. Brewer just signed makes it a misdemeanor to lack proper… Read more
