Kobach uses invalid claims of voter fraud to back suppression efforts

Today, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach appeared on the Family Research Council’s “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” radio show to discuss a recent court decision upholding Kobach’s voter suppression efforts in Kansas. While defending the SAFE Act law that currently leaves 15,000 Kansas voters ineligible, Kobach cited a 2010 case in which Somali nationals were purportedly “coached” to vote in a Missouri election. Kobach claimed the votes impacted the results of an election that was decided by one vote. As is often the case with claims of voter fraud having any impact on election outcomes, Kobach’s story is not true. The results of the election in question were contested in court and a Missouri judge ruled, “The credible evidence proves that there was no voter misconduct and there was no voter fraud with regard to this election.”
