Imagine2050 Staff • May 05, 2017

There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, events in Washington, D.C., New York, and Texas.

On Friday, May 5, anti-immigrant front group Progressives for Immigration Reform (PFIR) will host a press conference in Washington, D.C. announcing a new online database the group has created detailing H-1B guest worker visas. The event will be co-hosted by Bright Future Jobs, another organization that has previously partnered with anti-immigrant groups. PFIR had an exhibition booth at last month’s Earth Day Texas conference.

On Sunday, May 7, the Jerusalem Post will hold its annual conference in New York City. Featured speakers include Caroline Glick, a writer and fellow at the anti-Muslim Center for Security Policy, and anti-Muslim Trump advisor Sebastian Gorka.

On Monday, May 8, East Texans for Liberty will hold a meeting featuring far-right radio host and Fox News contributor Kevin Jackson in Longview, Texas. Jackson is a founding member of the now-defunct anti-immigrant front group Black American Leadership Alliance. In the past several years, he has also broadcasted from Hold Their Feet to the Fire, an annual media event hosted by flagship anti-immigrant group Federation for American Immigration Reform.

Finally, on Wednesday, May 10, anti-immigrant think tank Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) will host a panel discussion in Washington, D.C. The panel will focus on a recent CIS report suggesting there is widespread fraud in asylum claims. To evidence this, the report’s author notes little evidence other than that asylum applications have increased in recent years. In another recent report, CIS recommended border vigilantes be given access to government resources to assist Border Patrol agents. CIS’s last panel discussion occurred in March.
