Imagine2050 Staff • Oct 20, 2017

There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, events in Florida, Ohio, and Virginia.

On Saturday, October 21, anti-Muslim activist Tom Trento will speak at the “America: The Truth” conference in Sarasota, Florida. A published agenda for the conference indicates Trento will give a presentation titled “A Culture in Crisis: America with God”—which is sure to include The United West founder’s braggadocious brand of anti-Muslim bigotry in defense of supposed Judeo-Christian values. The conference is also set to feature other paranoid and xenophobic presentations including one from right-wing radio host Suzanne Shattuck titled “Refugee Resettlement – A Peaceful Conquest.”

On Monday, October 23, the local chapter of anti-Muslim grassroots group ACT for America will host a meeting in Broadview Heights, Ohio. Anti-Muslim conspiracy theorists James Simpson and Philip Haney will speak at the event. Simpson and Haney will speak to another local ACT for America chapter in Norwood, Ohio the next day, Tuesday, October 24. Both Simpson and Haney are fixtures on the anti-Muslim speaking circuit. The Ohio ACT chapters have been active in inviting outside speakers to address its members. Other figures that have recently visited Ohio include Richard Green, Clare Lopez, Laurie Cardoza-Moore, Trevor Loudon, and Robert Spencer.

Finally, on Thursday, October 26, anti-Muslim conspiracy theorist Frank Gaffney will speak during the 10th Annual Asymmetric Threat Symposium in McLean, Virginia. Gaffney’s Center for Security Policy is a co-sponsor of the conference alongside other war-boosting organizations CACI International, Inc. and the Institute for the Study of War.
