There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, events in Oregon, Florida, Texas and Pennsylvania.

On Saturday, November 18, anti-immigrant group Oregonians for Immigration Reform (OFIR) will hold a meeting in Salem, Oregon. OFIR is currently gathering signatures in an effort to place a referendum on Oregon’s so-called “sanctuary law” on the November 2018 ballot. OFIR’s referendum effort is receiving support from leaders within the anti-immigrant movement, including the Immigration Reform Law Institute and U.S. Inc., the philanthropic foundation of white nationalist and founder of the contemporary anti-immigrant movement, John Tanton.

On Sunday, November 19, anti-Muslim group Citizens for National Security (CFNS) will host a presentation by Christopher Farrell in Boca Raton, Florida. Farrell will discuss building a wall along the entirety of the U.S.-Mexico border. Last year, CFNS hosted a seminar by anti-Muslim demagogue and former White House advisor Sebastian Gorka.

On Tuesday, November 21, anti-immigrant group Texans for Immigration Reduction and Enforcement (TFIRE) will host a meeting in Houston, Texas. Frosty Wooldridge, a strident anti-Muslim bigot and former member of the flagship anti-immigrant group Federation for American Immigration Reform’s advisory board, will speak at the event.

Finally, also on Tuesday, November 21, Jonathan Hanen, a field representative for anti-immigrant group Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) will speak in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Hanen will be the keynote speaker at a meeting of the Lebanon 9-12 Project. Hanen joined FAIR as the organization’s northeast field representative last year. He has given similar presentations in states including Maryland, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts this year.
