Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) provided a Congressional platform to anti-Muslim activist Chris Gaubatz, an employee at John Guandolo’s consulting group Understanding the Threat. Gaubatz testified a 2016 senate subcommittee hearing entitled “Willful Blindness: Consequences of Agency Efforts To Deemphasize Radical Islam in Combating Terrorism,” over which Cruz presided.
During his testimony, Gaubatz promoted UTT’s biased anti-Muslim training programs and peddled common conspiracy theories regarding the Muslim Brotherhood’s alleged plans to infiltrate and overthrow the U.S. government. He also accused the only two Muslim members of Congress of being secret Muslim Brotherhood operatives.
While he had the floor, Gaubatz referred to the Islamic doctrine of Shariah as “the enemy threat doctrine” and called its adherents “a direct threat to the Republic.”
He warned that if American leadership does not take the so-called threat from Shariah seriously, “we will continue on our current path of defeat and eventually lose this war here at home as we did in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
